PhD Researcher · Urban Climate & Geospatial AI · Indiana University Bloomington
I’m Rahul - a PhD researcher in the Healthy Cities Lab at Indiana University Bloomington, where I work with Dr. Dana Habeeb on urban climate and public health.
Before the PhD, I worked as a software engineer. That industry experience still drives how I do research: I like building things that people can use now, not just writing about them. Most of my work becomes working software: dashboards, sensor pipelines, and mapping tools for communities and local decision-makers.
My research focuses on extreme heat and heat-health risk, with methods spanning Earth observation, geospatial ML, and real-time sensor networks. I care a lot about translation: taking technical methods and turning them into practical systems that help cities prepare for heat.
Outside the lab, I read a lot of science fiction, play tennis, and listen to too many podcasts. The books page is where I keep track of what I’ve been reading.
